Heavy rains cause economic losses in western China

SANAA, Aug. 09 (YPA) – China’s state-run CCTV television station reported that  heavy rains caused significant economic losses in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

CCTV added on late Saturday evening that the rains caused economic losses of 250 million yuan ($38.57 million).

It noted that the rains had affected some 121,600 people in six cities in the territory.

Forty-five houses had collapsed, and 118 houses had been severely damaged. China usually has the highest rainfall rate in summer.

Central China’s Henan Province experienced severe storms last month, with Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, in just three days experiencing the equivalent of one-year rainfall.
