Russia announces intercontinental ballistic missiles to ensure security for decades

SANAA, Aug. 08 (YPA) – The Executive Director of the Russian Space Agency “Roskosmos” Dmitry Rogozin announced that the “Sarmat” intercontinental ballistic missiles will ensure the security of Russia for several decades.

Rogozin said in a media interview today, Saturday: “Work is now underway to develop an unparalleled system, the Sarmat system, and we are now actually concluding the ground tests of this entire system, and we are doing this in a way that will allow preparing the ground by developing such a powerful ballistic missile to ensure the security of the country.” and its entire future development for the next 30-40 years.”

The Sarmat (RS-28) system in the arsenal of the Russian army is scheduled to replace the “Voevoda” system (“RS-20V”, known as “Satan” according to the NATO classification), which is the heaviest strategic missile in the world. .

Work on the Sarmat project began in 2011, and air trials within the framework of the project are expected to begin this year and conclude in 2022, with the new missile entering service in the arsenal of the Russian army as of the same year.

The new missile will be able to hit targets across both the North and South Poles while bypassing hostile defenses.

The Sarmat missile has a range of 18,000 km, a take-off weight of 208.1 tons, a length of 35.5 meters and a diameter of three meters.
