Palestine condemns Zionist entity’s accession to African Union

OCCUPIED QUDS, Jul. 24 (YPA) – The African Union officially granted the Israeli occupation entity the status of an observer member in the union, in a way that achieves a goal that Israeli diplomats have worked for nearly two decades ago, which sparked Palestinian condemnation.

The Israeli ambassador to Ethiopia, “Aleli Admaso”, presented his credentials as an observer to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, “Mussa Faki Mahamat”, at the organization’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, according to the French news agency.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid commented on this, in a statement issued by his office: “This is a day of celebration for Israeli-African relations.”

He pointed out that the observer status “will enable Israel to further assist the African Union in the areas of combating the Corona pandemic and terrorism.”

The statement stated that Israel currently maintains relations with 46 African countries, and “has extensive partnerships and joint cooperation in various fields, including trade and aid.”

For its part, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” described the decision to grant the Israeli enemy membership of the African Union as an observer member as “shocking and reprehensible and enhances its legitimacy on the Palestinian territories.”

The movement added, in a statement, that the decision gives the occupation “more opportunities to continue its plans to erase Palestinian rights and continue its brutal crimes against our people.”

“Unfortunately, this decision was taken by the countries of the African continent, which have suffered for centuries and still are, from the yoke of colonialism and racism, and have done dearly and cheaply to get rid of them,” the statement read.
