French newspaper: Moroccan intelligence spied on President Macron phone

PARIS, Jul. 20 (YPA) – A French newspaper reported on Tuesday that Moroccan intelligence spied on the phones of French President Emmanuel Macron and former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, using an Israeli spyware program called “Pegasus”.

The French newspaper “Le Monde” said, according to its own information, that in 2019, Moroccan intelligence targeted the phones of President Macron and then Prime Minister Philippe, as well as 14 ministers in the government.

The newspaper added that it is not yet certain whether Moroccan intelligence succeeded in spying on the phone of the president and the rest of the government.

The Elysee said, after Le Monde newspaper contacted the presidential palace, that the facts that took place “would be considered very serious if proven true.”

On Monday, France condemned what it described as “very shocking facts” related to press and human rights reports that indicated that Morocco spied on French journalists through an Israeli spying program.

Last Sunday, 17 media organizations revealed through an investigative investigation that several countries, including Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, used a program called “Pegasus” developed by an Israeli company, to spy on journalists, opponents and activists.
