Ethiopia mobilizes its special forces to fight Tigray Liberation Front

SANAA, Jul. 17 (YPA) – Ethiopia on Friday mobilized the special combat forces from various Ethiopian provinces in preparation for the fight against the Tigray Liberation Front.

The Ethiopian news agency INA said the deployment of special forces in  the provinces was a step to deter what it described as the “provocative actions” of the “terrorist” Tigray Liberation Front group on the borders of the Amhara and Tigray regions.

This comes after the federal government declared a unilateral ceasefire, which it said was humanitarian, but Prime Minister Abby  Ahmed finally warned that Addis Ababa would not tolerate provocations.

Following the MILF’s attack on neighbouring Amhara province, other provinces sent their troops to deter and prevent attacks, the agency said, noting that  the  provinces of Oromia, Sidama and the peoples of the south of the country had sent members of their special forces.

During the troop build-up, the Head of Oromia called on all citizens to fight against the “terrorist group”, which he described as “the enemy of all”.

For his part, the President of Sidama Province, said his government is determined to counter and thwart the efforts of the “terrorist group” and its collaborators.
