ICRC calls for stopping war, ending suffering of Yemeni people

SANAA, Jul. 05 (YPA) – President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, on Monday called on everyone who has influence in the world to work to stop the war and end the suffering of the Yemeni people.

During a press conference held Monday in the capital Sanaa, in light of his visit to Yemen, Maurer stressed that there is a rift between the needs of the Yemeni people and the humanitarian response, indicating that this rift is expanding.

Maurer pointed out that half of the health sector in Yemen is not working compared to the situation before the war, noting that the ICRC is working to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to the war-wounded in more than 50 areas.

He renewed the demand for access to all places of detention of prisoners and detainees and to guarantee their right to decent treatment and a one-on-one interview with ICRC’s representatives

“We raised the issue of the missing, and this matter constitutes a tragedy for many families, and we addressed the parties to the war on our readiness to work on resolving this humanitarian file,” Maurer said.

He added, “We made an offer to facilitate the conduct of prisoner exchange negotiations, and we hope to enter into the executive steps soon.”
