Earthquake hits Yemeni island of Socotra

SOCOTRA, May 27 (YPA) – A moderate earthquake struck the Yemeni island of Socotra, located in the Indian Ocean.

According to local sources on the island, the earthquake that occurred on Wednesday evening was concentrated in Nojd area, south of the island, and the people of the island felt its power.

The seismic earthquake occurred off the coast of eastern Yemen during the past few days, amid the continuing earthquakes in the southern coasts of Yemen.

In May 2015, the Saudi-led coalition warplanes waged a series of strikes on Yemen, destroying the only center for monitoring and studying earthquakes and volcanoes in Dhamar province.
