Iran calls on Saudi Arabia to change its war-provoking expansionist policies
TEHRAN, May 25 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Tuesday called on Saudi Arabia to change its expansionist policies that stir war.
Khatibzadeh said, in his weekly press conference, “Saudi Arabia has to make the decision. Does it want not to change this method and its previous boring words and behavior or has it decided to move away from its expansionist and war-provoking policies as a constructive partner alongside the rest of the countries in the region?”
He added, “We are waiting for measures and changes in Riyadh’s behavior.”
The spokesman confirmed that Iran’s policies on regional dialogue and regional arrangements are not new and have always been in place.
“We have welcomed the participation of Saudi Arabia, and we believe that it can be a constructive party if it stays away from its boring policies,” he said.
Concerning negotiations between Riyadh and Tehran in Baghdad, Khatibzadeh noted that talks have started on bilateral, regional and international issues, and there have been contacts.
On the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister, Muhammad Javad Zarif to the UAE, Khatibzadeh confirmed that the visit is on the agenda and added, “The date has not yet been set, and it will be completed if preparations and requirements are prepared.”
During this month, media reports revealed that contacts had taken place between Tehran and Abu Dhabi during the last period, with the aim of restoring relations between the two countries and reducing tensions in the region.
It is expected that the UAE will return its ambassador to Tehran in the coming period, especially as Abu Dhabi has maintained its position among Iran’s main economic partners.
