NEW YORK, May 17 (YPA) – For the third time, the United States of America blocked the issuance of a joint statement of the UN Security Council calling for a ceasefire between the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation entity.
Diplomatic sources were quoted by media as saying on Monday that the United States had made its position that more time should be given to its diplomatic efforts.
The draft statement was prepared by China, Tunisia and Norway, and it should be noted that the text of the draft statement criticized both sides of the conflict (Palestine and Israel).
The UN Security council’s closed sessions reviewed the draft statement on Monday and Wednesday last week.
The draft statement was supported by 14 of the 15 council members, and the adoption of the statement requires unanimous approval, but the US opposed it according to diplomatic sources .
