Violent clashes break out between police, protesters in Belfast, Ireland

SANAA, April 10 (YPA) – Protests have intensified in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, against the new trade barriers that the authorities of the European Union member state have placed with the rest of the United Kingdom, following the latter’s exit from the Union.

“France Press” published a video clip documenting violent confrontations with local police.

The clashes included the throwing of Molotov cocktails at the police forces, and throwing stones at them, on a new day of protests that have continued for more than a week.

Police also tried to prevent pro-Irish nationalists from reaching the pro-union borders with the United Kingdom.

And contributed to Brexit, to destabilize the fragile balance in the boycott by re-imposing customs controls between Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Unionists denounce the customs restrictions that the authorities have begun to impose in the ports of Northern Ireland, as they are a border between their country and Britain, and a betrayal on the part of London.

According to “Agence France-Presse”, the violence brought back the memory of three decades of unrest between Republicans, especially Catholics, in favor of reunification with Ireland, and among Protestant unionists who advocated belonging to the United Kingdom.
