Islah ignites clashes between “Shabwah and Marib” tribes

MARIB, April 02 (YPA) – Armed clashes broke out on Friday between tribal gunmen from Shabwah and Marib provinces, local activists reported .

Activists on social media confirmed that clashes broke out between gunmen from the Belharth tribe from Bayhan district of Shabwah and “Al Abu Tahf” tribe of Marib in the Al-Farsha area located between the two tribes.

The activists attributed the clashes to the differences between the two tribes over the areas between them, without mentioning the victims of the clashes.

The clashes followed armed clashes between the two tribes in early June 2018, which left three dead and three injured  from both tribes, after gunmen burned a truck loaded with oil belonging to a member of the Belharth tribe.

In July 2014 , Armed clashes broke out between the two tribes, leaving  12 dead and 17 injured  from the two tribes, as the conflict between them fueled areas claimed by each tribe.

Political observers believe that the leaders of the Islah party in the two tribes are fuelling conflicts between shabwah and Marib tribes, enabling them to exploit the oil wealth of the two provinces.
