Lavrov reveals new way to reduce risk of US sanctions

SANAA, March 22 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called for the use of national currencies instead of the US dollar in mutual dealings  between countries to reduce the risk of US sanctions.

“To minimize the risk of sanctions, we need to strengthen our technological independence,” Lavrov said in an interview with Chinese media published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“This comes through a shift to the use of global national currencies, as an alternative to the dollar in mutual dealings,” the Russian foreign minister added.”We should stay away from the use of international payment systems controlled by the West.

The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Russia and China must strengthen their independence.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier this month that his country would respond to possible US sanctions against it over the case of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.
