SANAA, March 13 (YPA) – At least two protesters were shot dead by police in Tharkita district of Myanmar’s commercial capital Yangon overnight, local media reported Saturday.
Police opened fire on a crowd in front of Tharkita police station to demand the release of people previously detained by police, according to DVB News.
Rights groups say more than 60 protesters have been killed, while some 2,000 have been arrested since the February 1st coup that toppled Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government.
The UN Security Council condemned the violence against protesters and urged the military to exercise restraint.
