Socotra fishermen condemn sending Emirati forces to ‘Darsa’ Island

SOCOTRA, March 04 (YPA) – Fishermen in the Socotra Archipelago province condemned on Thursday the dispatch of Emirati forces to Darsa Island, which is located near the mother island in the southwestern side.

The fishermen demanded stopping all the Emirati military movements on the Darsa island, the first of which was preventing fishermen from entering the island, as it is considered a starting and resting point for Socotra fishermen.

The Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia loyal to the UAE had granted permits and licenses to the “Broom Fish Company”, allowed it to fish in the Socotra waters, and tightened the noose on more than 7,000 fishermen of Socotra, the fishermen explained.

They added that the UAE allows unidentified ships to shovel fish in large quantities with the silence of more than 20 fish societies on the island, which did even issue a single statement defending the rights of the Socotra fishermen.

The area of Darsa Island in the Socotra Archipelago is about 10 square kilometers, and is not inhabited.
