SANAA, March 3 (YPA) – The US Senate Intelligence Committee voted unanimously on Tuesday for veteran diplomat William Burns to take over the position of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
“The committee unanimously approved President Joe Biden’s nomination of diplomat William Burns for the position of Director of the CIA,” said Democratic Senator Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
This approval paves the way for a general vote in the Council on the nomination.
It is noteworthy that Burns was the US ambassador to Moscow from 2005 to 2008.
While serving as ambassador to Moscow, William Burns participated in attempts to “re-launch” relations between the United States and Russia during former President Barack Obama’s first term and from 2011-2014, Burns served as Deputy Secretary of State, before resigning from that position.
