UNESCO calls for returning Bronze Ibex back to Yemen

SANAA, Feb. 28 (YPA) – The Secretariat-General of the National Committee of UNESCO condemned the display of the Yemeni bronze medal “Ather” at the French Palace of Fontainebleau and the Museums of Tokyo.

In a letter to UNESCO’s Doha office director, Dr. Ahmed Al-Rubai, The Secretary-General of the National Committee of UNESCO, condemned the ongoing looting and theft of ancient Yemeni antiquities

Dr. Al-Rubai called on UNESCO and Interpol to play their humanitarian role and take international legal action against those responsible for the smuggling and display of the bronze deer  and get it back to its country of origin Yemen.

Bronze ibex was reportedly looted from a Yemeni temple, in province of Marib.
