SANAA, Feb. 25 (YPA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on Thursday that China has scored a “complete victory” in its fight against poverty.
According to Xinhua, Xi said that extreme poverty has been eliminated in the world’s most populous country, adding that with these achievements, China has created another “miracle” that will be recorded in history. ”
Xi’s announcement came during a speech at a grand gathering held in Beijing to celebrate the country’s achievements in eradicating extreme poverty and honor its exemplary examples of fighting poverty.
Over the past eight years, 98.99 million poor rural people living below the current poverty line have been lifted out of poverty. All of the 832 poor governorates and 128,000 poor villages were removed from the poverty list.
Since reform and opening-up was launched in the late 1970s, 770 million poor rural people have risen out of poverty when calculated according to China’s current poverty line.
