Tunisian Labor Union threatens to declare general strike

SANAA, Feb. 20 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the Tunisian Labor Union, Noureddine Taboubi, said on Friday that “the labor organization is heading to a general strike in the public sector.”
The Secretary-General of the Union, Noureddine Taboubi, stated that this step aims to “pressure to save public institutions, which are experiencing stifling structural and material problems due to the failure of the country’s social and economic policies during the last ten years.”
“The time has come to stand together in front of the attempts to weaken the state and to miss its public institutions that are systematically destructive, while the political elite continues its struggles for the sake of power and control over the joints of the state,” Taboubi added. “.
Taboubi called on the government to assume its responsibilities in reforming the “Tunesar” and to pump the necessary funds to save it from collapse “just as all countries of the world do with their tankers.”
He also called on the government to reconsider the contractual status of the Turkish company “TAV-Tunisia” with the Tunisian Airlines complex.
