Sudan, Israel to exchange opening of embassies soon

KHARTOUM, Jan. 26 (YPA) – A Sudanese government source said on Tuesday that Khartoum and Tel Aviv agreed to “exchange the opening of embassies as soon as possible.”

This came during a lightning visit by Israeli Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen to the Sudanese capital.

The source added that “the Israeli minister arrived in Khartoum Monday, on a short unannounced visit, and held two separate meetings with Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, and Defense Minister Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, to revitalize relations and exchange the opening of embassies.”

He pointed out that “the visit of the Israeli minister to Khartoum aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.”

Sudanese activists on social media circulated pictures of the two ministers, “Cohen and Yassin”, during their meeting in Khartoum.

For its part, the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said, “Cohen made a historic visit to Sudan, on Monday evening, in the first public official visit of an Israeli minister to the Arab state after normalization between the two countries.”

It added that Cohen met with Al-Burhan, Yassin and other Sudanese officials (it did not mention them) and discussed with them a number of political, security and economic issues.
