GULF, Jan. 24 (YPA) – Israel had agreed to let the United State deploy batteries of the so-called “Iron Dome’ missile defense system in the Gulf region, media reported on Sunday.
Israeli “Haaretz” newspaper quoted military sources in the occupation entity as confirming that senior officials in “Israel”, behind closed doors, had agreed to deploy the “Iron Dome” in US army bases in a number of countries in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and the Far East.
Israeli officials told the newspaper that there is talk about “the technical approval of the Americans’ deploying the batteries in order to protect their forces from possible attacks by Iran and its allies,” according to the newspaper.
The officials refused to disclose which the Gulf States the Iron Dome would be deployed in.
They noted to the increasing interest of Saudi Arabia and other countries in acquiring the “Iron Dome” in the face of the “Iranian threat” after the attack on “Aramco” facilities in September 2019, but they denied that the deployment of the missile system in the Gulf was part of the “Abraham Accords” related to normalizing relations between Israel and Arab countries.
Haaretz reminded of a Saudi press report, last September, which revealed that the Kingdom had entered into an agreement to purchase the “Iron Dome” from Israel with the mediation of Washington, and the Israeli Ministry of Defense denied this news at the time.
