HODEIDA, Jan. 11 (YPA) – The UAE-backed militias uprooted hundreds of palm trees during the past few days, in the coastal districts of Al-Durayhimi, Al-Tuhita, Beit Al-Faqih and Al-Khokha in Hodeida province, west of Yemen, local sources reported on Monday.
The sources explained that the militias justified their cutting down of trees on the grounds of obstructing the army and the popular committees.
The UAE’s Red Crescent exacerbated the problem after the implementation of its campaign to build temporary homes that it finances and its purchase of palm trees from local residents, according to the sources.
Activists on social media stated that the oases on the western coast in more than one area are prone to desertification and environmental damage due to the continued cutting of palm trees.
