America witnesses protests, riots on New Year’s Eve

PORTLAND, Jan. 01 (YPA) – Riots broke out on New Year’s Eve in Portland, the largest city in the US state of Oregon, during which protesters threw Molotov cocktails at police.

According to the Russian “Sputnik” agency, the police wrote in a tweet on Twitter: “A gathering in the center of Portland city turned into a riot and the participants threw incendiary materials at the police, and fired fireworks at the Federal Court’s building and the Justice Palace in the city.”

US television channels reported that the protesters set fire to neighboring buildings, while police responded with pepper spray and rubber bullets.

Reports indicated that attacks on the city administration building and other facilities took place the previous day.
