Israeli occupation plans to displace Al-Nu’man village’s residents by issuing demolition notices to all of its houses

OCCUPIED QUDS, July 30 (YPA) – Israeli occupation authorities notified the demolition of all homes in the village of al-Nu’man, located northeast of occupied Quds (Jerusalem), on Wednesday.

This move was described by local sources as a dangerous escalation in a systematic policy to displace Palestinian residents and impose complete control over the area.

According to Jamal al-Darawi, head of the al-Nu’man village council, Israeli occupation forces stormed the village, accompanied by crews from the occupation municipality in Quds, and delivered demolition notices to 35 homes, including 45 inhabited apartments. This is the third time since the beginning of this year, on the pretext of “building without a permit.”

Al-Darawi explained that the occupation has prohibited construction in the village for more than 32 years, forcing approximately 100 residents to leave due to ongoing restrictions and the denial of their right to adequate housing.

He added that these measures clearly aim to empty the village and administratively annex it to the occupation municipality in Quds as part of plans for Judaization and settlement expansion.

Systematic Siege and Repression Since the Construction of the Wall

With the construction of the apartheid wall in 2002, the village of al-Nu’man has been completely besieged and isolated from occupied Quds, despite its location within the municipal boundaries according to the Israeli occupation’s divisions. The occupation has erected a permanent military checkpoint at its entrance, restricting the movement of residents and isolating them from their surroundings.

Today, only about 150 residents live in the village, in an area of no more than 1,500 dunams. They are deprived of basic services, and their civil and living needs are ignored.

Legitimizing Displacement

In another development that exacerbates the residents’ suffering, the occupation municipality began two years ago to retroactively impose the “Arnona” property tax on the village’s homes.

This measure, residents see as an attempt to drain them financially and force them to emigrate, especially since the majority live in difficult economic circumstances and cannot afford to pay these exorbitant fees.

Al-Darawi called on human rights organizations and international courts to “urgently intervene to halt the mass demolition decision and protect residents from forced displacement,” warning that continued international silence would give the occupation the green light to continue its racist policies against Jerusalemites.

It is worth noting that the village of al-Nu’man is one of the villages targeted by the so-called “Greater Jerusalem” project, which aims to create a radical demographic and geographic change around the occupied capital in favor of settlements.
