US nuclear submarine crosses Strait of Hormuz

SANAA, Dec. 22 (YPA) – The Pentagon announced that a nuclear submarine has crossed the Strait of Hormuz for the first time, accompanied by other warships.

A Pentagon official said late Monday that the passage of the submarine was a message to Tehran and a commitment from Washington to protect its allies.

The USS Georgia is equipped with more than 150 Tomahawk missiles.

The commander of US forces in the Middle East, General Frank McKenzie, said his country was “ready to respond” if Iran attacked it on the first anniversary of general Qassem Soleimani’s death.

“We are ready to defend ourselves, our friends and allies in the region, and we are ready to respond if necessary,” he told reporters.
