SANAA, Dec. 9 (YPA) -A fire broke out in two oil wells in Iraq’s northern Khabbaz field in Kirkuk province after they were targeted by explosive devices, TV Sumerian News Channel reported, citing a security source.
“The two explosive devices exploded at dawn Wednesday, inside two oil wells in the Khabbaz field in Kirkuk province, causing a fire inside the field,” the source said.
“Civil defense teams have been trying to put out fires inside the field since the early hours of the morning,” the source added.
At the moment, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Iraqi media said that the Islamic State terror group was behind the bombing, citing local police sources.
The Khabbaz oil field is located 20 kilometers southwest of Kirkuk and produces about 25,000 barrels per day.
