Brexit negotiations resume in Brussels

SANAA, Dec. 6 (YPA) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced, at the end of a call between them on Saturday, that negotiations between Britain and the European Union will resume their sessions on Sunday, in Brussels.
In a joint statement issued by Downing Street, they said that despite the continuing differences, “more efforts must be made” by negotiators to determine whether it could be “resolved”, and indicated that they would hold talks again on Monday evening.
The chief negotiator for the British side, David Frost, and his European counterpart, Michel Barnier, indicated that there were “major differences” on a number of key issues that have stalled the talks since the summer.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on the two sides to strike a deal as the 11-month Brexit transitional period approaches to expire on December 31.
Reaching an agreement is necessary to avoid any deep disruptions to the economies of both sides mainly affected by Covid-19, especially Britain.
