Local authorities in Mahrah ban UAE-funded sport activities

MAHRAH, Nov. 15 (YPA) – Local authorities in Mahrah province on Saturday banned Emirati-sponsored sports activities in the province.

“After consulting with the leadership of the local authority, we decided to ban the establishment of a league, organized by the UAE-backed Southern  Transitional Council (STC) militias under the auspices of Mohammed bin Zayed,” Said Badr Salem Bin Kalshat, Mahrah’s deputy for youth affairs, in a circular addressed to the heads of sports clubs and the football federation branch.

Kalshat attributed the decision, saying that the STC is an unofficial faction, which does not recognize “the state, its president and its institutions”.

He noted that the STC is still at war against the so-called “legitimacy” and its military institutions, and therefore prevents any activity from being dealt with at present.

Kalshat warned anyone who disagreed with the circular to “take strict legal action against those who breach the orders”.

The STC is planning to hold a sports league with the support and funding of the UAE, while an official league of provincial clubs and sponsored by the Youth Office has been going on for nearly two months.
