Serious studied commitments by conflict parties to end ongoing war in Yemen: UN envoy to Yemen

SANAA, Nov. 11 (YPA) – The UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths said on Wednesday, in a new briefing to the Security Council, that the serious and studied commitments of the leaders responsible for the conflict would end ongoing war in Yemen.

The time has come to take final and required decisions that lead to beginning negotiations and joint declaration, he affirmed.

In the briefing, Griffiths expressed his concern about the escalation of fighting from time to time, especially in the provinces of Marib and Taiz, and the repeated shelling that destroyed homes, schools and hospitals in a number of Yemeni areas.

The UN envoy called on the conflicting parties to adhere to the obligations being imposed by international law to protect civilian lives and civilian infrastructure.

“The United Nations has been trying for months to find solutions to assess the Safir tanker’s situation, carry out preliminary reforms and formulate recommendations about the necessary measures to avoid any oil spillage,” Griffiths added, that talks about this was constructive.”

The UN envoy said, “We need to succeed the Riyadh-run agreement signed by the Saudi-backed exiled Hadi government and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), calling the two sides to implement it and achievement the peace process.”

Griffiths stressed the importance of taking a decision to end the war and lift the siege for reach for a political solution and the end of the suffering Yemeni people.
