ANKARA, Nov. 2 (YPA) – The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced on Monday that the number of victims of Izmir earthquake has risen to 81 dead, while search and rescue efforts are still continuing.
AFAD said, in a statement, that 743 people completed treatment and left hospitals, out of 962 injured in the earthquake.
AFAD explained that 219 people are still being treated in hospitals, noting that search and rescue work in eight apartment buildings demolished by the earthquake.
AFAD stated that the authorities distributed more than 3,500 tents and 13,000 beds to provide temporary shelters for those affected.
An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale hit Izmir, with its epicenter in the Aegean Sea, 17 km from the state’s coast, at a depth of 16.54 km.
