Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Akhras continues his strike for the 81st day in row

SANAA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Akhras, 49, from Jenin in the Occupied West Bank, continues his open hunger strike in rejection of his administrative detention for one day after 80 years in a row.

Amid extremely dangerous health conditions, he is met with the refusal and intransigence of the Zionist enemy to respond to his demand to end his administrative detention.

The head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club, Fares Kaddoura warned that the health of the mute prisoner every minute he passed is more difficult than the previous ones, which brings him closer to the moment of his martyrdom.

Dozens of prisoners in Ofer prison began as a sign of an open hunger strike yesterday, while the prison administration transferred prisoners to isolation.

On October 12, the enemy court rejected his lawyer’s request for immediate release, and made a proposal to leave the door open to the possibility of continued administrative detention.

Al-Akhras was admitted to the hospital earlier this month as his health condition deteriorated due to his continued hunger strike.

Stressing that he would risk everything until he gains his freedom, he said: “I refuse to give in to the decisions of this occupying state. I will either return freely to my children and to my people, or I will die without submission.

I am firm on my position, [observing] hunger strike for 80 days for my own dignity and the dignity of my family, people and detainees,” Maher al-Akhras said .
