UAE prepares to set up new camp in Socotra

SOCOTRA, Oct. 6 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias have seized lands of the state and citizens on Socotra archipelago province, southern Yemen, a local source reported on Monday.

The STC’s militia launched on Sunday a campaign to rub off and seize citizens’ lands in ‘Sarhin’ area in the island by force of arms, the source said.

The UAE seeks to turn the lands of the state and citizens in the area into military sites within the Emirati-Israeli base, he added.

Sarhin’s people accused the UAE of pushing the STC militias to seize the lands to achieve its military interests on the island.

Late in last week, violent clashes erupted between the tribes of Sarhin area and the UAE-backed militias, against the background of the latter’s attacks on the lands and property of citizens in the area.

In last June, the UAE established a joint operations room with the Israeli navy in the strategic ‘Ras Quttainan’ area, southwest of Socotra, after displacing the people of the area.
