SANAA, Sept. 15 (YPA) – A strong earthquake measuring as high as 6.2 on the Richter scale shook Russia.
The large quake hit Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula region on the country’s far-east coast, over 6,200 km from Moscow.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said the quake hit at a depth of 331km – over 200 miles – at around 03:41 UTC, or 04:41 UK time.
No material or human casualties have been reported, and not subsequent tsunamis were not reported as well.
The last earthquake to hit the region was on May 17, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale.
The Kamchatka Peninsula is situated above the Pacific Fire Belt, an area that extends in the form of a wide arc and experiences significant seismic and volcanic activity.
