Mahathir Mohamad: UAE and Israel agreement is a step backwards

SANAA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has launched a verbal attack against the UAE-Israel normalization agreement, in which he described it as “a step backwards, and that it is dividing the Muslim world into rival factions.”

“The agreement will divide the Muslim world into warring factions, and The Israelis will be able to pour fuel on fire in this conflict,” Mohammed told ” This Week in Asia” newspaper.

He confirmed that the agreement will increase the ability of the rivals to fight each other, and there will be no peace even between Muslim countries

“The agreement will strengthen the Israeli position that Palestine belongs to Israel,” he added

He continued: “Of course there will be a reaction from Palestinians and sympathizers, which means prolonging the war in the Middle East.”

The UAE and Israel recently announced an agreement to normalize relations between the two countries under the auspices of US President Donald Trump.
