Mahara people announce their absolute rejection of Saudi-Emirati military presence in province.
MAHARA, July 6 (YPA) – The sheikhs and notables of Mahra province announced their absolute rejection of the Saudi-Emirati military presence in the province.
A number of members of the General Council of Mahara and Socotra Sons, in a meeting on Sunday denounced the general position of the Council regarding the events in Socotra Island during last June.
The members accused the leadership of the council, represented by Abdullah bin Affar, of identifying with the Saudi-Emirati ambitions on the island of Socotra and Mahra, which serve foreign projects in southern Yemen.
Council members warned against the plans of the “transitional council” of the Emirates, which target the security and stability of Mahara, especially after the fall of the Socotra Archipelago.
The number of members refused to sign the statement issued by the meeting, which did not contain any condemnation or mention of the Saudi-Emirati occupation in the two governorates.
It is reported that the peaceful sit-in committee foiled the meeting, which was called by Abdullah Bin Affar, Chairman of the General Council for Mahara and Socotra, to legitimize the Saudi-Emirati presence in Mahara.
A member of the South Yemeni National Rescue Council, Saleh Al-Mujibi, said, “Mahara people will not allow the repetition of the Socotra scenario in al-Mahra, whatever the price.”
For his part, the official of the external communication in the peaceful sit-in committee of Mahara people, Ahmed Belhaf, confirmed that there were no agreed-upon outcomes in the general council meeting that was being promoted.
He stated that the statement issued by the council was prepared in advance, in reference to the implementation of the “Abdullah bin Affar” agenda for Saudi Arabia and the Emirates in Socotra and Mahara.
He pointed out that the Mahara people reject the province sale plan that was previously implemented in Socotra, stressing that Mahara will not be a conduit for personal gain and Saudi greed.
