Swarms of locusts invade capital Sanaa, several provinces

SANAA, July 4 (YPA) – Large swarms of desert locusts covered on Saturday the sky of the capital city of Sanaa and a number of provinces, coming from the summer breeding areas and the coastal and eastern regions of the country.

The desert locust insect is one of the most devastating pests of the agricultural crops that feed on them.

In this regard, the locust control teams of the Desert Locust Monitoring and Follow-up Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation continue the works of combating the locust and spraying pesticides to get rid of them and monitor their situation in the summer breeding areas that witness the emergence of locust insects in large numbers.

The climatic and environmental conditions, such as heavy rains and green vegetation, constitute an environment suitable for locust breeding by laying eggs in fertile areas to ensure continuity of reproduction.
