SANAA, June 17 (YPA) – China’s capital Beijing on Wednesday cancelled at least 1,255 domestic and overseas flights, as fears of a new outbreak of the new coronavirus increased.
According to the state-run People’s Daily Newspaper, cancelled flights account for nearly 70 per cent of all flights received by the Chinese capital.
City officials have urged residents not to leave the city, and several provinces have quarantined travelers from Beijing after more than 130 new cases have been confirmed in the capital in recent days, AFP reported.
Authorities in Beijing have reported 31 confirmed cases of coronavirus by the end of June 16, up from 27 the previous day, as the city seeks to curb the spread of the disease.
“Nineteen of the new cases have been detected in the Southwestern region , where the new infections emerged last week,” the city’s health authority said in a statement posted on its Weibo Chinese social networking account.
China, the epicenter of the epidemic, fears a new wave of infections sweeping the country, after recovering from the pandemic and returning to normal life.
