SANAA, June 15 (YPA) – Tunisian Prime Minister Elias El-Fakhfakh announced on Sunday evening his country’s victory over the Corona virus.
“The Tunisians should be proud that their country won the Corona pandemic, thanks to the efforts of all parties throughout the last period,” al-Fakhfakh said, in an interview with the private “Ninth” channel.
He added: “We got out of this crisis with the slightest damage and very important results on the health level.”
Al-Fakhfakh indicated that his country is preparing to reopen its borders from June 27.
Al-Fakhfakh ruled out the possibility of the virus re-spreading in Tunisia, but called for caution in order to completely eradicate the pandemic.
The Tunisian Prime Minister pointed out that his country “did its best to evacuate its citizens abroad, as 25,000 people were evacuated since the beginning of the Corona crisis.”
On June 8, Tunisian President Qais Said decided to lift the curfew imposed in the entire country as part of measures to counter the Corona outbreak.
A statement issued by the Tunisian presidency stated at the time that the decision comes after “the positive results recorded regarding limiting the spread of Corona in various regions of the republic”.
In the middle of last March, the President announced a curfew in the country from six in the evening (17 GMT) until six in the morning (5 GMT) to reduce the spread of the virus.
As of Sunday, Tunisia had recorded 1,096 cases of corona, including 49 deaths, and 998 recovered, according to the Ministry of Health.
