Pyongyang threatens to cancel military agreement with Seoul

SANAA, June 4 (YPA) – North Korea threatened on Thursday to break the military agreement with South Korea and close the liaison office between the two countries if Seoul does not prevent activists from sending leaflets to the other side of the border.
According to Agence France-Presse, the announcement was made of the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, while relations between the two Koreas are cool despite three summits between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in in 2018.

Kim Yu-jung confirmed that the South Korean authorities would pay a heavy price if they allowed the activists to continue to send balloons to the other side of the border, carrying leaflets against North Korea.

“It’s time to hold their owners to account,” Kim added, referring to the South Korean government protecting North Korean opponents.

She threatened to close the cross-border liaison office and cancel the military agreement signed during a visit by Moon to Pyongyang in 2018 aimed at easing tensions on the border.

However, most of the agreements signed during this summit were not implemented, due to the American intervention and its continued implementation of military exercises with North Korea, which prompted North Korea to continue its military experiences.

As for the liaison office activities, they are suspended due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Kim Yu-jung also threatened to cancel dozens of economic projects between the two countries permanently, especially the Kaesong Industrial Zone and visits to Mount Kumgang.
