SANAA, May 31 (YPA) – The Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem), Palestine, opened its doors at dawn Sunday, more than two months after it was closed due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus ( COVID-19).
Hundreds of Palestinian worshippers entered the mosque’s courtyards through the doors of Hata, Majlis, al-Sa’id, and chanted slogans that reflected their love for the mosque and the longing for it.
At dawn on Sunday, the Islamic Waqf department announced that it had reopened the mosque to worshippers to pray and worship.
The Department called on worshippers to spread all prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to take appropriate safety measures.
In March, the Council of Endowments, Affairs and Holy Places in al-Quds announced the suspension of worshippers from the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem for a temporary period to curb the spread of the new Corona virus.
Israeli forces control the entrances to the site, which is administered by the Islamic Waqf Department of Jordan.The Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the three most prominent sites for Muslims.
The al-Aqsa Mosque, located in East al-Quds, occupied by Israel after the 1967 war, and it is at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
