Syrian army liberates al-Mansoura city west of Aleppo
SANAA, Feb. 16 (YPA) – Syrian army units continued their military operations in the western countryside of Aleppo under heavy Syrian-Russian air cover, liberating the strategic area of “al-Mansoura” after violent clashes with armed groups deployed in the area.
The correspondent of the Syrian news agency “SANA” in Aleppo countryside confirmed that the Syrian army fought fierce battles with the terrorist organizations “Liberation of The Levant” and “Turkistan Islamic Party” and their allies on the western gate of Aleppo.
The Syrian army forces were able to take control over the town of al-Mansoura, and captured the area of the scientific research center amid attempts to capture the northern Al-Rashideen as well, after eliminating a large number of terrorist fighters and destroying headquarters and vehicles.
The reporter quoted a field source saying that the control of the area of ” the northern Al-Rashideen” is very important as one of the most important strongholds of “Al-Nusra” west of Aleppo, and has always been the headquarters for carrying out rocket attacks targeting the neighborhoods of the city.
The source added that another advance of army units was recorded west of the international road, specifically west of the town of Khan al-Asal, where Syrian army units took control of several towns after the elimination of armed men from the terrorist organizations.
The town of Al-Mansoura is located near the western entrance to Aleppo city, and at the beginning of the highway (Aleppo- Bab al-Hawa crossing/ border post with Turkey) through the city of Dara Ezza.
Al- Mansoura is one of the strongholds of Jabhat al-Nusra in western Aleppo countryside, while recently hundreds of Chinese Islamic militants affiliated with the Turkistan Islamic Party were brought into the area from their settlements in the Jisr al-Shughur southwest of Idlib and the northeastern Latakia countryside.
In a desperate attempt to stop the Syrian army’s advance on the southern and western fronts of Aleppo city and to repair the heavy losses suffered by the group in recent times.
