6.3 measuring earthquake hits eastern Indonesia
SANAA, Feb. 7 (YPA) – An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck Thursday, East Java Province, eastern Indonesia.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climate and Geophysics Authority announced that the earthquake occurred 69 km off the coast of northeastern “Banggalan” district of Java state, noting that its depth is 636 km.
The authority did not clarify, through a statement, whether the earthquake had caused material or human damages, or any warning of a tsunami after it.
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because of the occurrence in the area known as the Pacific Ring of Fire exposed to such events.
