Emirati drone shot down in Libya
SANAA, Jan. 28 (YPA) – The Libyan government forces announced on Tuesday the shooting down of an Emirati drone, which was supported the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter, in the city of Misurata, east of the capital, Tripoli.
The “Anatolia” agency quoted sources affiliated with the Libyan government, in a statement, that the air defenses brought down the plane east of Misrata (200 km east of Tripoli), after the plane bombed several civilian sites inside the city, without talking about losses.
The agency added, according to eyewitnesses, that gunmen belonging to the National Accord government forces fired heavily at the plane, which was flying at a low altitude, east of the city.
In September 2019, the National Accord government filed a complaint against the UAE, before the United Nations Security Council, on charges of “hostility and supporting attempts to overthrow the legitimate government.”
At the end of the same month, the government accused the “Emirati Airlines” of bombing “vital civilian” targets in the city of Sirte (east of Tripoli) in support of Haftar’s forces, while Abu Dhabi is silent on these accusations.
