15 Taliban militants killed in southern Afghanistan
SANAA, Dec. 7 (YPA) – 15 Taliban militants were killed and two arrested after Afghan special forces launched a security operation in the southern province of Kandahar, according to Xinhua news agency.
The raid was carried out on Friday in Khinjak locality, Nish district, and an operations and command post belonging to the militants including several vehicles and some weapons and ammunition were destroyed during the operation, the agency quoted the Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps as saying in a statement.
Afghan security forces recently strengthened their security operations against Taliban fighters who were trying to seize land and consolidate their positions in the countryside before the winter.
The security situation in Kandahar, the former stronghold of the Taliban, has improved over the past months, as security forces conducted search and cordon operations throughout the province but the militants have attacked government interests in the province from time to time.
