UN Envoy leaves Sanaa after Sayyed Abdul Malik refuses to meet him

SANAA, Nov. 26 (YPA) – The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths left Sanaa International Airport ON Monday evening after a two-day visit, during which he met with President of the Supreme Political Council Chairman Mehdi Al-Mashat, officials of the National Salvation government. However,he has not met with Sayyed Abdul Malik al-Houthi, contrary to the usual practice.

Several media outlets quoted “informed sources”, saying that “the UN envoy left Sanaa, after the meeting for several reasons, including the refusal of Sayyed Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi to meet him.”

According to media reports, the sources attributed Griffiths’ angry departure, as well as Sayyed Al-Houthi’s refusal to meet him, to “criticize Sanaa for the fallacies he mentioned in his recent briefing to the Security Council.”

One of the most notable shortcomings in the UN envoy’s brief on the Security Council is his claim that “coalition airstrikes have decreased by 80% in the last two weeks and stopped in the last 48 hours” last Friday.

“The UN envoy’s claim in his briefing to the Security Council that the airstrikes of aggression were untrue and he has launched 12 airstrikes in the past 48 hours,” said Brig. Gen. Yahya Sare’e spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces.
