Al-Mortada: Over 7,000 prisoners released by local mediation exchange deals

SANAA, Oct. 26 (YPA) – Chairman of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdul Qader Al-Mortada on Saturday confirmed that the army and Popular Committees do not have any forcibly hidden prisoners.

He pointed out that 7,000 prisoners of the two parties have been freed through 300 local mediation exchanges process since the committee began its activity in mid-2015.

“No prisoners have been freed through the UN, despite the agreement signed by the parties to care for them and their supervision in Sweden,” al-Mortada said in an Interview with Saba News Agency on Saturday ..

The prisoners’ issue witnesses a suspension because of the aggression forces rejection of the exchange of all for all or through successive groups. This has stalled the prisoner exchange program, with the UN doing nothing to speed it up, he added.

Al-Mortada announced on September 30 the release of 350 imprisoned US-Saudi mercenaries, including three Saudis, in a unilateral step under the auspices of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
