NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (YPA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) group, at the ambassadorial level, held an emergency meeting, on Monday, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, at the request of the Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine to the UN.
The Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine, Riyad Mansour, briefed the attendees on the efforts of the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, and the political moves with Arab and international leaders to halt the aggression against Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, and to pressure the occupying authorities to reverse the large-scale invasion plan approved by Netanyahu’s government.
He also updated them on the latest developments in the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
The group condemned the Israeli aggression, calling on the international community, especially the Security Council, to urgently intervene to impose an immediate and lasting ceasefire and ensure the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The group decided to hold a demonstration in front of the Security Council headquarters this morning, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. New York time, during which the statement of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, will be distributed.
