Ministry of Human rights: Torture of prisoners to death is a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions
SANAA, Oct. 23 (YPA) – The Ministry of Human Rights confirmed that the torture prisoners to death of Saudi-led coalition and mercenaries in Marib is a flagrant violation of the four Geneva Conventions and the protocols attached.
The ministry said in a statement obtained by the Yemen Press Agency (YPA) on Wednesday that an armed group working in the administration of a prison in Marib tortured three prisoners of the army and popular committees in various forms of torture and forms to death.
According to the statement, those who committed this crime did not stop it, but filmed it and posted it on social media without regard to the rules, customs and ethics of the Islamic religion, international humanitarian law and all national and international norms.
The statement added that the protection of prisoners and detainees is at the heart of the ICRC’s work in accordance with its mandate in international humanitarian law.
The ministry held the United Nations and its various bodies are responsible for these crimes and violations against the Yemeni people in general and the prisoners held in the prisons of the Saudi-led aggression in particular, the statement read.
It reiterated its demand for the establishment of an independent and impartial international commission to investigate all violations and crimes committed against the Yemeni people in general and against prisoners of war and popular committees in particular.
