Gunmen storm “Al-Thawra General Hospital”, killing wounded in Taiz

TAIZ, Oct. 19 (YPA) – Gunmen believed to be affiliated with Islah Militias (Yemeni branch of Muslim Brotherhood) broke into Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz province, killing a wounded and injuring one of the medical staff at the hospital, local sources reported.

According to local sources, violent clashes broke out hours earlier, between two unidentified gunmen in Wadi al-Madam area, Taiz city, resulting in injuries, some of whom were taken to Al-Thawra General Hospital.

The sources added that after one of the injured, Helmi al-Shara’abi, was taken to Al-Thawra Hospital, the gunmen followed him to the hospital, where they broke into the emergency department.

They killed the wounded man and injured one of the medical staff, one of the sources said.

The sources confirmed that the raid on the hospital and the killing of the wounded Helmi al-Shara’abi, took place despite the presence of military police pickups near the hospital. However, these military pickups did not move to arrest the perpetrators.

The armed incursion into the hospital was not the first, and was preceded by a similar incursion carried out by the al-Islah group gunmen.

They broke into the internal emergency department and “attacked the doctor on duty and fled without being seized from the security and military authority, even though they are known,” the hospital staff confirmed.

Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz was subjected to several incursions, the most famous of which was the storming of the office of ” The head of the Revolutionary Hospital Authority Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Mohamed An’am”,  assaulted and expelled from his office, before being replaced by Hadi’s governor, Nabil Shamsan.
