UAE overthrows Hadi’s governor in Socotra Island

SOCOTRA, Oct. 19 (YPA) – Local sources in Socotra province reported on Friday that the UAE overthrew Hadi’s governor and assigned one of Socotra former officials to take over the province.

According to the sources, the UAE occupation representative on the Island Khalfan al-Mazroui assigned ” the director general of Hadebo Directorate, “Salem Dahiq”  to run the affairs of the province, instead of the governor of the coalition-backed government Riad Mahrous, who had issued a decree prohibiting the entry of any foreign citizen to the island except under a visa from his government.

The sources explained that the governor appointed by the UAE “Dahiq” began his work with a meeting with members of the local council in the capital of Socotra province.

The UAE delegate on Socotra Island carried out the collection of signatures of members and leaders of local councils in the districts of Hadibo and Qalansiya.

Activists on the websites posted pictures of signatures of the secretaries of all local councils on the island and their members demanding the dismissal of “Mahrous” and declaring their support for the UAE’s transition.

The UAE has tried in recent days to pressure through Saudi Arabia to dismiss Mahrous after mobilizing supporters of the UAE-backed STC to demonstrate there, and that the delay of the Saudi response prompted the UAE to take advanced steps.
