NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (YPA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s try to coordinate a phone call between him and the US President Donald Trump, according to the US “New York Times” newspaper.
The newspaper said in a report that the attempt to coordinate the call took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting held in New York last week.
“Macron, who for months sought to” melt ice “between Washington and Tehran, was keen to install a secure telephone line in a hotel room, where Rouhani was staying,” the newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, Rouhani and his aides were shocked by the offer made by the French president on an unannounced visit last Tuesday night at their residence at the Millennium Hilton Hotel.
“Macron was with a small team of consultants waiting outside Rouhani’s room and communicating with him through his aides.”
The newspaper said that Rouhani eventually refused to get out of his room and answer the call, while Trump was waiting on the other phone line.
